Started by photographer Douglas Sonders in 2012, Not a Bully strives to educate the public about the challenges facing rescue dogs who have unfairly been labeled as bully breed. This is my handsome boy, Oscar. I received a distress call from a friend of mine whose family friend had taken Oscar from an abusive home where he was going to be euthanized. When she sent me his picture, I knew I couldn’t let him go. The first day he was with us, he was very grouchy and cried when he was touched. Over the last several months since he came into our lives, he has become a completely different cat. No longer scared to ask for attention or jump up for cuddles, he has been the perfect addition to our single (formerly double) cat home and a welcome companion to our older cat, who was missing his brother terribly. We can’t imagine our lives without him!

This is Franklin! He is an 11 year old lab mix. At the time my old roommate and I adopted him from the Rescue Railroad in Miami. He was scheduled to be put down within the week.  So the Rescue Railroad made a last ditch effort to try and get him adopted and we were lucky enough to find him — that was 10 years ago. Last year, he was the ring-bearer at my wedding.
